The Sanctuary is a safe place for the horses to live out their lives without the worry of a missed meal, solitary confinement or mental and physical abuse.   You can help these forgotten horses!

Bucky is a buckskin quarter horse whose skin condition and head throwing habit made him undesirable as a riding horse.  He is now second in command of a heard of seven other horses.Charlie was the unfortunate victim of a diviorce.  He was pretty much left to himself after the wife left an was given to the sanctuary in 2005.Cherokee is a 28 year old Leopard appaloosa. Chevy, a BLM Mustang, was rounded up from the wild out west as a 4 year old.  Then he was left to his own devises for another 4 years in someone's backyard.  The owners decided that he was too much trouble to train so  they were going to 'put a bullet in his head' if a home wasn't found.Daisy was part of a backyard breeding program.  She was one of two very underweight mares that were kept with a stallion to be bred.  16 Hands purchased all three and gelded the stallion.  Scutter is the baby that resulted.Dakota was going to be used as a breeding stallion by a novice.  Unfortunately the owner died and the family gave the horse to SHHS.Dallas and his Dam Gracie were given to us because his owner developed a debilitating decease and could no longer care for them.  They were underweight and had severely overgrown hooves.Dancer was donated because her owner developed health and financial issues and was going to put her down so that she wouldn't be abused or used as a brood mare.  Luckily the owner heard about us before she euthanized her.Daphine was the victim of the petting zoo salmonella scare a few years back.  The owner of Jungle Gardens decided that the petting zoo animals had to go so we took her in to the Sanctuary.Duke was one of the three horse we purchased from a backyard breeder. He was a very gentle stallion.  Now he is a terrific gelding!Elvis was mishandled at a very young age and has human issues as a result. He love's Daphine.Foxy is not a rescue horse but she loves living at the sanctuary.Frolic was no longer wanted at her previous home so the owners were going to take her to the auction.  She was severely underweight.Gracie is a BLM mustang and is the mother to both Houston and Dallas.  Gypsy was also going to get put down because she was too dangerous.  She just had people respect issues and is actually a very sweet girl.Hailey was the victim of someone who didn't want to take the time to make sure she could eat her fair share of the food.  She was terribly underwieght but fattened right up when she was actually able to eat!!!Billie is a Saddlebred mare that was orphaned as a foal and therefore did not get the proper upbringing of  a normal foal.  She was isolated from other horses for a good part of her live and is scared of most horses except her pasture mate George.
